Dead fish to cycle tank?

Can we use dead fish instead of market prawn to cycle a new tank? Why I only heard of market prawn and not using other decaying stuff?

The reason why we dont eat a raw prawn left at room temperature for 3 days is not because it is ammonia filled, its because it is bacteria infested and would otherwise cause us to be sick.
Using decaying matter to cycle a tank is as good as adding harmful bacteria to your tank, something I consider a bad start.
Go to a bakery shop and get pure ammonium bicarbonate. Dissolve some into a 500ml bottle of clean water, use an airline tube with valve control to slowly drip this concentrated ammonia solution into your tank. This will act as a constant supply of ammonia just like a fish would. With proper filters and media, addition of bacteria solution and raised temperature, your tank should cycle in less than a week, at least it did for me.
If you intend to heavily stock your tank, then after the tank cycled, prepare another even more concentrated solution and drip it in for another 2-3 days. Test parameters, once ammonia/nitrite is zero, youre good to go.
>My 2 cents
It doesnt make much difference Bro Fishfish but of course there are pro and con
Dead fish may carry harmful bacteria (waste in the fish stomach), may soil the water and have foul smell. Mp will still soil the water and have foul smell depends on how long you let it decay but safer.
Other alternatives such as BB booster, waste product from fishes (will take longer time), transfer bio media from a cycled tank to the new tank, etc.
Hope it helps Good Day
>Very enlightening and scientific way and good advice Bro Andy
I normally go by the slow and easy way. Transfer media from a cycled tank to the new tank and let nature takes over
>Think you get bacteria booster to boost the cycling better. If not end up got worms in your tank..
>The list goes on and on, what may work for others might not be the same to you.
I have tried Goldfish, TFB, Feeder Mollies, Adding BBs, MP. It actually depends on yourself what you wanna experiment with.
>For the weak-hearted or whom with wives who pity the fishes used for cycling, used ammonium bicarbonate as Ive mentioned above.
Or else, just cycle the tank with live fishes.
So many ways to get to jurong, just pick the one youre most comfortable with
>Use ammonia. Safe and odourless. Save the trouble of bearing with stinky prawns or rotten meat.
>Usually setting up new tank, I will use my existingedia from another tank and also the used cotton for speedier tank cycle
